Chapter 21: Derek is the 8th episode of Season 2 of The Good Place. This is also the mid-season finale.
Plot[]
Janet creates a big problem for Michael. Meanwhile, Eleanor lets Chidi in on a secret, and Jason puts Tahani in a difficult position.
Summary[]
Eleanor rewatches the video Mindy had recorded of her and Chidi confessing their love for one another, mulling it over. However, she can't bring herself to tell him about this, worried what this means for them both. Moreover, they have bigger things to worry about. Michael and Eleanor want to kill Derek to prevent him from blowing their cover while Janet grows increasingly depressed and Chidi warns that this is unethical and their goal has to be helping Jason and Tahani, which Michael and Eleanor agree to.
As Tahani and Jason decide to get married, Eleanor, Chidi and Michael stop the wedding and cause Derek and Jason to get become mad at each other. After they resolve their conflict, Janet absorbs Derek's essence and puts him in a casket to dispose of in her void.
Eleanor shows Chidi the tape, and each are astounded that they love the other. Michael asks Eleanor's advice on being ethical, to which Eleanor replies that he's becoming human. Michael then returns to his office to find Shawn waiting for him.

- Derek's main purpose was to replace Jason in a way, more as a “rebound” since Janet was still hung up on Jason hooking up with Tahani
