Lester in Eleanor's final flashback.
History[]
Lester is a dog owned by Paula Ouncerock. He meets Eleanor Shellstrop for the first time before Eleanor died. Later in the afterlife, the dog is seen in her flashbacks.
Appearance 1[]
In the first flashback, Eleanor has to house-sit for a friend, Paula, who is going to visit her sick mother. Paula tells Eleanor that she has to look after Lester and give him his kidney medicine. Eleanor shows genuine disinterest.
Appearance 2[]
In Eleanor's next flashback, she is most of the way through house and dog sitting when her friend, comes to invite Eleanor to a Rihanna concert, she says she would like to but has to look after Paula's house and 'this stupid dog'. In this appearance it is implied that despite not wanting to take care of the dog, she did so anyway, before her friend had appeared.
Eventually, Eleanor is persuaded to go to the Rihanna concert. Before leaving, she fills containers with dog food and tells Lester what food to eat, and when and the remaining dog food will be for emergencies, then she takes off for the Rihanna concert.
Appearance 3[]
In Eleanor's final flashback, Paula meets Eleanor at a cafe. Eleanor appears friendly, almost oblivious before Paula immediately brings in news of Lester's condition, which was obviously Eleanor's fault. Paula had been told by professionals that her dog's tummy had now grown to the size of a basketball, and may never shrink again due to the amount of food Lester ate. She angrily stated that she has “a very bulbous dog.” Lester is last seen as Paula storms off, wagon in-hand.
