Hello, and welcome to your new Janet. Janets are brought to you by the makers of light, darkness, and everything.
—Janet's user manual

The Operator's Manual for Janet is a booklet detailing the processes and procedures for operating a Good Janet. It is primarily used for activation of Janets and troubleshooting issues that might arise.

The Operator's Manual comes with each Janet, and is stored within the Janet's nasal cavity.

Activation

Hello, and welcome to your new Janet. Janets are brought to you by the makers of light, darkness, and everything. To activate your Janet, press nose for three seconds.

Troubleshooting

There are three stages of troubleshooting with Janets.

Full diagnostic

In the event of malfunction, run the following tests on Janet to rule out minor issues. If you find abnormalities in Janet's corporeal function or summoning/retrieval abilities, a reboot may be in order. If the issue pertains to informational inaccuracy, marbleization may be necessary for the safety of the neighborhood.

Basic corporeal function

Firstly, test Janet's basic corporeal function (including, but not limited to, temperature check and blood pressure). Janet's temperature should ideally be just below 99,700,000,000,000 °F, and she should have no blood.

Summoning and retrieval

Have Janet produce an object using the random object generator program. The program will produce a highly irregular object, so Janet's success in procuring the object is a sign that she is operating at full capacity.

Informational accuracy

Glitches may be a sign that your Janet is processing or disseminating information that is incompatible with objective truth. The effect of these errors will be much lesser if Janet believes she is telling the truth, even if it is not; however, if Janet intentionally lies, knowing it is not the truth, the impact will be much greater.

If this is the case, marbleization may be a necessary measure for the sake of the residents' safety.

Rebooting

If your Janet is experiencing difficulties or glitches, or needs to be reset for other reasons, she can be rebooted by pressing a button in a remote corner of the neighborhood.

Approaching said button will trigger a default defense mechanism from Janet herself, a realistic plea for mercy which mimics authentic panic. (This is the only human emotion that Janet is built to have the capacity for.)

Marbleizing

Main page: Marbleization

If Janet is triggering errors or glitches that cause damage to the structural integrity of the neighborhood, she has become a danger to the neighborhood and the residents, and must be rebooted.
