William Shakespeare is a historical figure and renowned playwright who is mentioned several times on The Good Place.
Biography
Post-mortem
After his death, Shakespeare was immediately sent to the Bad Place; it is unknown whether he was truly a bad person or simply did not meet the Good Place's entry minimum.
In Chapter 38, Shawn tortures Shakespeare by telling him about the plot of Entourage, a 2015 film that received 33% on Rotten Tomatoes.
Later, Shakespeare passes the Test and is admitted to the Good Place. During his time there, he authors approximately four thousand more plays, which were (in Eleanor's opinion) much worse than his plays from his time on Earth. Most notably, Shakespeare wrote a sequel to his 1611 comedy The Tempest entitled The Tempest 2: Here We Blow Again (a blunt allusion to the 2018 Mamma Mia!sequel).
Shortly before the events of Chapter 52, Shakespeare makes the news in the Afterlife community by passing through the Last Door.
